Half-way Celebration – Fire & Ice Masquerade

Half-way Celebration - Fire & Ice Masquerade

Cool it Down & Warm it Up

On Friday evening, January 20th, almost 40 SMCA 8th-12th graders celebrated the half-way mark of our academic calendar with a Fire & Ice Masquerade. Team Fire and Team Ice began the evening with some ice breaker games–racing to unwrap candy in a cold saran wrap ball, racing to pick up red hots with chopsticks, racing to cover a picture of an ice sculpture of a fire by sucking hot tamales with straws, and solving “fire & ice” riddles frozen in ice cubes for Dentyne Ice. Students then enjoyed an assortment of Firehouse subs, drinks in a punch bowl filled with blue ice cubes and fire (tea light candles!), hot (or mild!) salsa on ice to accompany Flamin’ Hot Doritos, and hot brownies with cold ice cream on top. Although it might have been catchy to some to play Phantom of the Opera’s Masquerade or The Wiggles’ Hot Potato during the dancing portion of the evening, other options were chosen. All in all, the students enjoyed the evening fellowshipping and celebrating the half-way mark of the school year.
