Breaking the Silence

Breaking the Silence

“We’re breaking the silence,” stated Cheerleading Coach Kemba Williams. Kemba, one of SMCA’s K4 teachers, has resurrected SMCA’s cheerleading program after seven years without a squad. She saw the need and has run with it amid two other after school jobs. Assisted by Mikaela Vaughan, K5 Instructional Assistant and former SMCA cheerleader, Williams and Vaughan are leading fifteen young ladies–five 10th graders, seven 8th graders, and three 7th graders–in cheering for at least one game for all five of SMCA’s basketball teams this season.

During their Friday practices, the ladies are focusing on image–who do you say you are? What are you putting on display for God? How does the public see a group of young Christian women? Furthermore, they’re talking about leadership and breaking the stereotype of cheerleading. “Let’s be big and bold in our journey to glorify God,” exclaimed Williams!

Come out and cheer with our girls as they break through the silence and support our basketball teams!
