2021 Capstone Implementation Week

2021 Capstone Implementation Week

Our seniors completed their Capstone Implementation Week. Like everything else this year, we had to make some adjustments. Seniors were able to complete their Implementation Week in three different ways: on site with their mentor, at a worksite provided at school, or virtually. The Capstone Implementation Week is an opportunity for students to apply the research and knowledge they have developed about their chosen topic. The senior must develop an implementation experience that allows them to test their Capstone thesis. The goal for each senior is to engage their topic in a “real life” setting in order to get a feel of the topic and to be around experts who are working through the issues of the topic. The seniors had great feedback from their implementation experience and learned new information from their chosen mentors. Here are just a few examples of the 2021 Capstone Implementation Week experiences:

Implementation was very fun. I worked with Mr. Namyst and his family at their printing business. They were very nice to me and made sure to tell me everything that was going on and how all the machines worked. I learned how to work a machine, and helped out around the facility. It was a great experience and I was able to learn what workplaces are like. They gave me a lot of information on my topic and were very helpful.

This capstone project has been a great experience for me and being able to work through implementation week was amazing. I have had the opportunity to take a controversial topic that is important all around the world, and grasp a deeper understanding of the topic as a whole and how it can affect people. I was able to see different sides of my argument through multiple people, learn why they would choose that decision, and I was even able to see people’s views from a different religion. I learned that even though we should always look through the biblical perspective first, there are always other sides to the argument. I also learned that we have to take into consideration other individuals’ situations and take into account their reasoning for their decision. My experience with my implementation will greatly help me with my project. By being able to explain the differences even better than before, even though I may understand the viewpoints from others, I will still be able to conclude why hospice would be a better alternative than physician assisted suicide.

My experience of Capstone Implementation Week was really helpful. My topic for capstone was: Is homework beneficial? Coming into Implementation Week, I looked at both sides of the argument of whether homework is beneficial or not. I leaned more towards homework not being beneficial, but when I interviewed my mentor and his two other colleagues it changed my perspective. Not only did I learn a lot from the interviews, but it also helped me see how important homework is for student achievement. One thing that I learned from the interviews was having a balance between school and doing fun things. If you solely focus on school then you will not be able to spend time with family and friends. You also can’t spend too much time having fun because if you spend more time doing the fun things then when schoolwork comes you may wait until the last minute to complete it or may not complete it at all. Having that balance with schoolwork and doing fun things is something that I learned from the interviews. Because I leaned more towards doing the fun things, I realized that I need to spend less time doing fun things and get my schoolwork done. Doing that helped my grades improve significantly. Having balance with school work, or just work in general, and doing fun things is important. When I first heard of Capstone and what it was about I didn’t want to do it, but over time it has been a great experience. When you pick a topic that really interests you the class becomes easier. So, pick a topic that is interesting to you and get a mentor.

This whole implementation week has been a really fun and eye-opening experience for me to perceive more information about my topic. To be honest, this experience essentially aided me in increasing my social skills and instructed me on how to interact with people outside of school. I have scientifically discovered how the brain works and causes Generation Z to be so obsessive with social media. I believe Capstone can be easy if you know what topic you are passionate about and get it done earlier. Capstone is not purely just a grade for class but a life experience.
