Choose Your Thrive – Senior Internships

Choose Your Thrive - Senior Internships

SMCA is excited to offer internships which provide professional learning opportunities for high school seniors. Seniors have the opportunity to choose a field of interest to them and secure a position for a yearlong internship. During that time, students will have weekly logs detailing all work experience that they are obtaining. They develop personal goals determining what knowledge and experience that they hope to gain.  Students receive a quarterly evaluation from their mentor discussing their progress and areas for improvement. Finally, all interns write a final paper telling of the overall experience and knowledge obtained.

This year, we have four senior who wanted an opportunity to gain some life experiences. Seniors, Ian Horton and Savannah Hall, were able to secure an internship through Quality Printers. This printing company that is located in White Plains has helped SMCA with all their printing needs. Joe and Joanne Namyst, owners of the shop, were excited to offer this opportunity to SMCA students.  They have allowed the students to get in and learn the trade of the printing company.  The students experienced setting up screens and checking copies. Another senior, Clint Strader, has been interning at Charles Street Bakery in LaPlata. He has been learning all things baking including scooping out cookie dough for some yummy cookies. Finally, Judea Campbell, was able to secure an internship with the Esthetic Boutique in LaPlata. Judea has been able to work the front desk and learn about the different products the boutique uses. Judea hopes to be an esthetician one day.

SMCA recognizes the important of supporting students that desire to learn a trade and receive real life experiences within the work world. SMCA’s Choose Your Thrive Program combines flexibility, accountability, and independence offering the best for your student to thrive now and into the collegiate or professional world. We are always looking for more internship options for our high school seniors within our SMCA community. Please contact Mrs. Crawford (candacecrawford@smcaemail.com) if you are interested in hosting an SMCA intern next school year.
