Spring Drama Production: The Messiah Inquest

Spring Drama Production: The Messiah Inquest

The Messiah Inquest was unlike any play that we have ever done before. For many, they were not even familiar with the term “inquest”-  a judicial inquiry to ascertain the facts relating to an incident, such as a death.  The subject was Jesus. The question, ” Was Jesus the Messiah?” We transformed the chapel into a courtroom, and put our Messiah on trial. With the help of Judge Judy ( Annie Gaines, 11th), the prosecuting attorneys (Rylee Gragg(11th) and Holli Kolbialka (11th), and the defense attorneys ( Taylor Baker (9th) and Layla Dodson (6th); they brought to the stand many witnesses of the past including: Blind Man- Simon ben-Issac ( Kiersten Coleman (7th), Disciple- Judas Iscariot ( Joshua Gilroy (6th), High Priest- Caiaphas(Jaiyana West (6th), Pontius Pilate (Judea Campbell (8th), Joseph of Arimathea (Nyla Gordon (6th), Mary Magdalene ( Hannah Crawford (8th), Captain of the Temple Guard ( Alyana Cox (11th), and the Disciple, Simon Peter (Nicky Cox (8th). After hearing all the testimonies of the witnesses including the testimony of our own stage manager Morgan Baker (12th) , the audience cast as the jury made the final decision- Jesus is the Messiah! He is alive! He loves you and desires to have a personal relationship with you. We believe that a powerful message was delivered and many seeds were planted (Isaiah 55:11). We were grateful to be used as the hands and feet of Christ. It was a humbling experience for all. We give Christ all the glory and honor.
