SMCA Students Lead With Purpose Through Chick-fil-A Leader Academy

SMCA National Honor Society (NHS) students recently had the privilege of presenting a check for $996.64 to Danielle Wilmoth, Executive Director of the Charles County Children’s Aid Society. The donation represents the profit raised through the 2ndannual Fun Funds Fair, an impact project designed and led by students with support from a microgrant provided by Chick-fil-A.

This meaningful initiative is part of the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, a year-long program that equips students with leadership skills through service and community engagement. Throughout the experience, students moved beyond discussing leadership in theory and stepped into active roles as leaders making a real difference in their community.

In September, students kicked off their service efforts by packaging Chick-fil-A books and recording themselves reading aloud. These videos were then shared with students at Indian Head Elementary School, helping to promote literacy and connection across grade levels.

As part of their Do-Good December service project, NHS students also supported SMCA campus events and assisted local community churches, further extending their impact throughout the season of giving.

The Fun Funds Fair not only provided a fun, family-centered event for the school community but also created opportunities to directly support children and families across Charles County. Through these experiences, students strengthened their leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence while learning the value of sustained community service.

SMCA is excited to share that Chick-fil-A of La Plata has extended the invitation to continue the Leader Academy program for the 2026–2027 school year, allowing future students to develop as leaders while continuing to serve and uplift the community.

The Charles County Children’s Aid Society works to improve the quality of life for struggling families in Charles County so that children and families can thrive and succeed. This partnership and donation reflect the shared commitment to supporting local youth and strengthening the community.
