From Electrons to Eternity: Science that Points to Truth

Today our elementary and middle school students were able to experience an amazing science presentation centered on the wonders of the “invisible” in God’s Creation. Rooted in the truth of Colossians 1:16a, “For by him were all things created, that in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,” the program masterfully connected scientific discovery with biblical truth.

Dr. Matzko and his wife, Darlene, captivated students from the very beginning with an engaging exploration of the electromagnetic spectrum. Through a series of exciting demonstrations, they illustrated the various wavelengths that exist beyond what the human eye can see. Students learned how gamma rays are used in cancer treatments, how X-rays allow doctors to look inside the human body, and how light waves refract using a laser and a diamond. Each illustration brought abstract scientific concepts to life, helping students better understand the complexity and intentional design woven throughout creation.

The presentation then shifted focus to the microscopic world of atoms, with special attention given to electrons. Through hands-on demonstrations, students observed how electrons can create movement in metals and generate heat in different materials. Volunteers eagerly joined Dr. Matzko, participating in interactive experiments that reinforced the scientific principles being taught. These moments not only sparked curiosity but also encouraged students to see science as both understandable and exciting.

As the sessions concluded, Dr. Matzko and Darlene drew a meaningful parallel between science and Scripture by highlighting the significance of water. They emphasized water’s essential role on Earth while connecting it to its powerful symbolism in the Bible. Using Revelation 22:17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.,” they clearly presented the Gospel message and the hope found in Christ.

The scientific demonstrations that followed further showcased the remarkable properties of water. In one dramatic and memorable moment, our Dean of Academics had her hand safely set on fire – yet remained unharmed – demonstrating the protective properties of water. This powerful visual left students in awe and served as a vivid reminder of both the intricacy of God’s design and the spiritual truths illustrated throughout the presentation.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Matzko and Darlene for investing in our students through such an engaging, educational, and spiritually enriching experience. It was a day that beautifully combined faith and science, reminding us all that even the invisible parts of creation declare the glory and intentional handiwork of our Creator.
