The Personality & Gifts Behind the Faces
Pictures are delightful to look at, and they become even more meaningful when you know about the people in them. Each year, students play an essential role in the behind-the-scenes preparation for the Homecoming Banquet.
Long before the music starts or the lights dim, Student Government officers and representatives are hard at work. They often dedicate one or two Saturdays and the Friday evening before the event to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary worlds. Over the past decade, these students have brought to life dazzling themes such as London Calling, A Night in Neverland, Hollywood Premiere, Glitz and Glam, A Night on the Nile, Red Carpet and Roses, A Night in Paris, Roaring ’20s Soiree, Under the Sea, and Medieval Moment. Each event is a masterpiece of imagination and teamwork.
Behind the elegant attire and bright smiles of our Homecoming Court, there’s an even more delightful story: their personalities, their quirks, and their hearts.
Their friends describe them as witty, understanding, thoughtful, talkative, smart, and silly. They’re also known to be selfless, respectful, patient, persevering, and loyal—leaders who are kind, intelligent, funny, energetic, encouraging, and Christ-like. They’re the kind of people who are easy to talk to, empathetic, dedicated, and just a little goofy (in the best way!). Some are persuasive even when they’re wrong, while others have a quiet charisma that draws people in.
They’re servants and leaders, dreamers and doers, and each one carries their own spark of joy that makes our community shine.
Of course, they have some very unique talents and quirks too! Among them are students who can:
-
Work on vehicles like seasoned mechanics
-
Talk for impressive stretches without taking a breath
-
Snort when they laugh (and make everyone else laugh, too)
-
Sing joyfully
-
Problem-solve creatively
-
Plan amazing events
-
Never lose at Connect Four
-
Move just one ear—or even one eyeball
-
Switch accents on command (and occasionally… not on command)
-
Convince friends of obviously false facts simply by saying them confidently
Beyond their laughter and lighthearted moments, their dreams reveal a depth of passion and purpose. They hope to:
-
Visit Hawaii or Japan
-
Skydive and try a backflip
-
Raise families that love God
-
Play college baseball or other sports
-
Own a herd of cows (yes, really!)
-
Publish new theories in physics and engineering
-
Graduate from college and pursue careers like neurosurgery
Each member of the Homecoming Court reminds us that this celebration is not solely about crowns, gowns, or ceremonies—it is about people. It is about students who contribute to our community with creativity, diligence, and faith; who bring joy, leadership, and light to those around them.
