Anatomy and Forensics Field Trip: A Hands-On Learning Experience at NOVA
Our Anatomy and Forensics classes recently had the opportunity to visit Northern Virginia Community College for a truly unforgettable field trip that brought classroom learning to life in a profound way.
During their visit, students were given the rare privilege of observing a dissected cadaver and learning about the life of the donor. She was a former NOVA student who, after a courageous battle with cancer, chose to selflessly donate her body to education before her passing at the age of 61. Her generous gift provided our students with a powerful, real-world learning experience—one that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom setting.
Students were able to closely observe and study various parts of the human body, including the ribcage, heart, lungs, spleen, stomach, pancreas, and more. This hands-on exposure deepened their understanding of human anatomy and allowed them to make meaningful connections between what they have learned in class and the complexity of the human body.
In addition to the lab experience, students toured the campus and explored a wide range of academic and career programs offered at NOVA, including nursing, dental, phlebotomy, EMS, sonography, and other health science pathways. This portion of the visit encouraged students to think more intentionally about their future educational and career opportunities.
We are incredibly grateful to have been able to provide this experience for our juniors and seniors. Opportunities like this not only enhance academic learning but also inspire students to reflect on the complexity and beauty of one of God’s greatest creations, while considering where their own paths may lead.
A sincere thank you to Northern Virginia Community College for hosting our students and making this impactful experience possible.
