Serving with Purpose: Mission Project at Southern Crossing

Recently, a group of high school students had the opportunity to take part in a meaningful mission project at Southern Crossing in Newburg, Maryland. Southern Crossing, a ministry of LifeStyles of Maryland, is a transitional housing community that supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness by providing safe housing and resources that encourage long-term stability and independence.

Throughout the day, students worked diligently to serve the community by painting benches, staining fencing, and cleaning the grounds. Their efforts helped enhance the appearance of the property and contributed to creating a more welcoming and uplifting environment for residents and staff alike.

In addition to their hands-on service, the students were also able to make a financial contribution. Using funds raised earlier in the school year for missions, the group presented LifeStyles of Maryland with a $3,000 check to further support their ongoing work in the community.

More importantly, this mission experience gave students the opportunity to live out their faith in a tangible and impactful way. Through their service, they demonstrated teamwork, responsibility, and compassion while reflecting the love of Christ to those they served. As Scripture reminds us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

This experience not only improved the physical environment at Southern Crossing but also encouraged students to grow in service, humility, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ within their local community.
