Expanding Minds and Hearts: SMCA’s New Courses for 2025–2026
At SMCA, we are continually seeking ways to better equip our students for servant leadership in a variety of fields. Each new course we introduce reflects our mission to equip students academically, spiritually, and practically for wherever God calls them next.
Why does it matter? Because learning is not just about knowledge, it’s about purpose. Hear from some of our amazing teachers about the exciting new opportunities awaiting our students this year!
Servant Leadership
In High School Leadership 2, High School Bible Teacher Rev. Greg Jackson shares, “The mission is to equip students to become the leaders God created them to be—grounded in faith, guided by biblical truth, and committed to serving others. Inspired by the example of David and other leaders, we cultivate character, courage, and purpose in every student.”
Servitude
Building upon last year’s popular Habitudes class, Donna Watson explains, “Servitude is a one-semester middle school elective that allows students to examine and strengthen habits and attitudes that develop a heart for servant leadership. Together, we’ll explore what Scripture says about these traits and how God uses them to shape us into the individuals He has called us to be. Our goal is to better understand who we are in Christ and be prepared to serve wherever He may lead.”
Robotics
New to SMCA, science teacher Betty Lyon brings energy and innovation to this class. She explains, “In Automation and Robotics, students are learning about mechanical systems, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects.”
Forensic Science
With her newly earned master’s degree in Forensic Science, Madison Tullos is bringing science and faith together in powerful ways. Mrs. Tullos shares, “Students are applying scientific methods and techniques to the field of criminal justice, focusing on facts rather than opinions. We’re examining real-world challenges through a Biblical worldview that brings hope to seemingly hopeless situations. Students will process mock crime scenes, analyze evidence in the lab, and explore ethical issues—all while pointing everything back to Biblical truth and the hope of the Gospel.”
Elementary STEM
Diane Stevens makes learning hands-on and full of wonder in her early education and elementary STEM classes. Students will explore and create as they learn about God’s design in the world—from seasons and senses to weather. They’ll build bridges (even drawbridges!), design their own inventions, and learn through both success and failure. Every challenge helps them grow in problem-solving and perseverance.
Puzzle Masters
Veteran teacher Donna Watson introduces students to the joy of problem-solving in Puzzle Masters. This class helps students develop God-given critical thinking and logic skills while emphasizing teamwork and cooperation. Focus is given to developing skills, working together, and completing assigned puzzles or projects in a timely manner.
SAT Prep
Now in its second year, Mr. Jacob Namyst’s SAT Prep course gives juniors and seniors a valuable edge. Students are given the opportunity to refine math and reading skills assessed on the SAT as well as practice effective strategies for tackling the unique challenges present on the exam. Middle and high school math concepts are reexamined through the lens of the SAT to help students practice solving problems traditionally as well as through the use of the digital tools provided on test day.
SMCA is excited to offer these dynamic new courses that nurture both academic excellence and spiritual growth. Each class provides students with the opportunity to discover their gifts, grow in their faith, and prepare for a lifetime of learning and leadership.
At SMCA, education isn’t just about what you learn—it’s about who you become.
