Characters: Fall Drama Production

Characters: Fall Drama Production

The SMCA Middle and High School Drama Club’s production of Characters performed Friday November 17 and Saturday November 18, 2017 was a huge success. This play was different from previous productions because it was a play within a play. Characters and stage crew alike were seen and heard on stage. The main character Jessica Lacue ( Kelcie Kitchen 9th grade) felt like no one understood her including her best friend, Missy (Kamari Johnson 9th grade). This is for a good reason- she was actually a character in a play. She met her playwright Ben Scripton (Steven Hall 10th grade) who had written her every move. Jessica wanted to have freedom to determine her own destiny. Through the course of the play, Jessica and Missy learned the meaning of true friendship and how easily that can be taken for granted. Missy turned to drinking as an answer to her problems and learned there are consequences to negative actions. Jessica learned that when we selfishly strive for things we lose sight of what is most important.  In the end, Ben Scripton declares his love for Jessica, frees all the characters from the play, and they all lived happily ever after.

We give all praise and thanks to our Heavenly Father who made this all possible. We looked forward to doing another great production in April! Stay Tuned!
