Salisbury Soccer Weekend

Salisbury Soccer Weekend

Our boys and girls varsity soccer teams had the opportunity to enjoy a soccer-filled weekend away in Salisbury, Maryland.  What better way to team bond than to go on a road trip, eat lots of good food, enjoy an evening at the beach, and watch college soccer?  Our Athletic Director, Mr. Paul Tarry, used this time to challenge the athletes to COMITY- Consider Others More Important Than Yourself.   This idea comes from Philippians 2:3.  Very often, we see athletes make the game all about themselves which can lead to hotheadedness, arguments with the other team, and disrespect of officials.  As Christians, we are called to act in a way that is pleasing to Christ and consider others more important than ourselves, especially when we are in the heat of a game.  Both varsity teams competed against Salisbury Christian School and then had the opportunity to watch Salisbury University’s men and women play.  The head coach of the women’s team, Kwame Lloyd, took the time to speak to our girls about what it takes to play soccer at the college level.  He also told them that he is a Christian and is able to use his faith to encourage the girls he coaches.  The weekend was a success and a trip that hopefully becomes a tradition here at SMCA.
